Joanna Gunderson

To see ourselves as others see us is not always edifying but it certainly is instructive…The episodes recorded here are both intriguing and readable. Without perhaps her meaning it, the writer has sought to prove that the westernisation of the upper class Indian is always skin deep; down below caste and age-old inhibitions are as powerful as ever. The appraisal may be harsh and uncompromising, but it will be unfair to say that the writer has not been honest.  The Pioneer Lucknow

It’s a masterpiece and like a poem and occupies itself with matters which are universally interesting such as the human character.  Elizabeth Marshall Thomas
